![]() ![]() I believe Blackmagic Design said before that the activation keys are what they are encouraging people to get (they want to move away from dongles), but, especially for situations where workstations are not connected to the internet due to security/secrecy, the dongle is still necessary.Resolve 14 has really stepped up Blackmagic’s NLE game with many great new updates over the past few months. Theoretically, Resolve 17 will be coming out in a month or two (the new release tends to come out around NAB, but since COVID-19, progress has gotten delayed), and the devs at Blackmagic Design mentioned around the release of Resolve 15 that it would take a few years for Fusion to be fully integrated into Resolve, so I would say in a year or two almost all of the stability issues will have been worked out.Īll of that is to say- they both have their pros and cons. I use the Fusion tab all the time, and for basic stuff it works very well, but anything mildly intensive tends to cause lag and sometimes crash Resolve. It's unclear what the future of Fusion Studio is, but as of right now, Fusion standalone is still a lot more powerful than the Fusion tab in Resolve. However, it gives you two activations for Resolve Studio and zero for Fusion Studio. The activation key is basically a password, so you can store that in many different ways and activate/deactivate on different machines as you need. However, if you lose the dongle, that's that. They are tied to the dongle, so you can move it between machines if you use different workstations. The dongle gives you one activation of Resolve Studio and one activation of Fusion Studio. This is probably way more info than you want, but here you go!įor the dongle vs activation key- it depends on your needs.
